Experimenting with a Fruity Pebbles iced latte, banana milk coffee, super cookie chips, and more
Hello and welcome back to Five Things I Ate! These week, we keep it short & sweet with a classic Five Things I Ate. Read past posts here, and please follow my Instagram, @fivethingsiate.Ā Ā
Fruity pebbles iced latte at home
A year ago I bought this epic cake mix on a whim and somehow I moved two apartments with the plastic bag of Fruity Pebbles (ā¢) included in it intact, and never made the cake. I couldnāt just throw out a bag of Fruity Pebbles with a history but it was also not quite large enough to be breakfast so I decided to make a Fruity Pebbles Latte instead. To make it, I stepped 1 cup of full fat Oatly oat milk with a packet (it was probably a cup?) of fruity pebbles. I steeped it for too long. 30 minutes is the right amount of time; after that it will disintegrate. Strain out the cereal. When it comes time to make your latte, pull 2 shots espresso (I just made 2 capsules of Nespresso ā choose a medium roast, not too dark as this is a subtle latte). Fill a pretty glass with ice. Top with half cup of the cereal milk, and finish with your espresso. The latte ended up being subtly sweet and milky ā more of a gentle grain and corn flavor with a fruity aftertaste. Add a tablespoon of vanilla simple syrup to round out the edges and make it sweet.
Banana oat milk iced latte at home
Inspired by a half eaten banana.
I am really bad at eating breakfast, but I live for my morning iced latte. I bought a bunch of bananas in the hope that Iād eat one for breakfast but I didnāt, so I decided to be creative and I blended it into my latte instead. Iāve seen banana iced lattes and banana milk coffee floating around the internet for a while so I decided to give it a try. For my version, I simply blended half a banana with ½ a cup of full fat oatmilk. I then poured it in a glass filled with ice and topped it with two shots of Nespresso, plus a tablespoon of maple syrup. The result was quite nice ā the banana milk gets frothy on top. You do want to drink it quickly so it doesnāt oxidize or settle.Ā
Guittard Super Cookie Chips at Whole Foods
I got this bag of chocolate chips as part of a plan to make chocolate chip cookies. I never made those cookies and instead just ate the chips straight out of the bag, from the freezer, because holy crap they are so good. āSuper Cookie Chipsā are not regular chocolate chips, theyāre shaped like blobby flat medallions like the kind youād find in an expensive premium bakery cookie. Iāll let you know if I ever get around to baking with them.
Bon Devil chocolate ganache cups at home
You can find them online.
I tried out these chocolate ganache cups as part of a āhealthyā snack foods order, and they are really good! I like that they call them ganache and not pudding, because thatās exactly what it tastes like. Very chocolatey and rich, not-too-sweet, and I like that it has no dairy for š©reasons.
Greek frappe with milk and sugar at Pi Bakerie
512 Broome St, New York, NY 10013
Iām going to Greece at the end of the month! It actually feels slightly surreal right now because holy shit I went through a LOT of life shit in the past two months, especially past one month, and especially past week, which makes my brain not think vacation is a thing that is real. But Iām slowly trying to ease my brain into it, as part of my enjoyment of travel always comes from the anticipation. So, to get into the mindset, I decided to try a frappe at Pi Bakerie, which is a very nice bakery with drawers full of baklava in Soho. Iāve never had a Greek frappe before, so please excuse me for this question: What is the difference between it and a Dalgona coffee?? Either way it was very delicious although slightly bitter. I really admired the glossy coffee foam. But I need to know more!
Stay dry,
Soph
