Hello and welcome back to Five Things I Ate! This week, we dive deep into the archives in search of pie. Read past posts here, and please follow my Instagram, @fivethingsiate.
Welcome to Thanksgiving week! We at Five Things I Ate know it gets crazy around these parts (personally, bestie, I’m At My Limit), so I thought I’d share some pie-spo from the archives. Have a favorite pie? Send it to me! (I’m the ultimate procrastinator and have yet to decide what I’m making for dessert Thanksgiving D:)
Labor-of-love lime meringue pie
From Labor-of-love lime meringue pie 🍋 💚
Wow, I used to have a lot of spare time on my hands. Can’t believe I ever juiced so many key limes by hand, but it was definitely worth it. I no longer have the ambition for this kind of nonsense. But maybe you do? (or, please, just buy larger limes)
Puff-pastry apple galette with frangipane at home
From The rough puff pastry adventures
If you learn One Cool Baking Trick, let it be Rough Puff Pastry. The week I got COVID during lockdown, I decided to school myself in all things pie crust. It makes even the simplest apple tart taste sublime.
Matcha pie
I couldn’t get away without putting something matcha flavored on this ‘letter. This is originally a Four and Twenty Blackbirds recipe. It got rave reviews from my toughest critic, my mom.
Salty honey custard pie
Ok low key this is my favorite pie I ever made? I feel like this never got the spotlight it deserved on my newsletter. It was well behaved and rich and sweet, which honestly when does that ever happen? Easy too, because you don’t need to parbake the crust, which is the bane of my existence.
Maple pecan pie bars with dark chocolate and browned butter
From One Thing I Ate: Maple pecan pie bars with dark chocolate and browned butter 🍁
This is one of my Thanksgiving favorites! It’s a portable pie! While it might not be in the shape of a traditional pie, it does contain BOTH pecans AND maple syrup so you know it’s bougie.
Hope you have a great Thanksgiving!
