Hello and welcome back to Five Things I Ate! This week, have you met Thai Iced Teaās Green Sister? Read past posts here, and please follow my Instagram, @fivethingsiate, where you can find photos of how I made the tea!
Dear Readers,
We interrupt our Greece-posting for the following announcement:
Source: Maobabie.
And under Little Treat Law, I am now obligated to share it (not the treat itself, but the fact that I have obtained said treat) with you!
Have you ever heard of green Thai iced tea? Up until a late-night Seamless search a few weeks ago, I hadnāt either. Because I didnāt hit the delivery minimum, I decided to forgo the delivery, but I didnāt let go of that minty-green stock photo in my mind. Which of course, led me to Reddit, which led me to buy a pack of tea leaf mix on Amazon, which led me to this YouTube video, which led me to the best damn Thai iced tea of my life.
Green thai iced tea
Makes approx 4-5 servings
Recipe from Bobaventures.
If youāve never had green Thai iced tea before ā youāre in for a real treat. Whereas regular Thai iced tea is orange-brown with black tea and tastes slightly warm and spicy, like a smoky vanilla, this one is made with jasmine tea and scented with vanilla and pandan. For me, itās even more delicious, as the floral taste is perfect with the green tea flavor, and IMO a better match for spicy dishes. Plus, as they say, you eat with your eyes, and the minty green reminds me of matcha.
This recipe is amazing. The tea is perfectly strong, while being sweet and creamy. Do not mess with the sugar ratios. I know that you will be tempted to, because you want it to be Not Too Sweet, but trust me on this oneā you want it to be a real Little Treat. I use half the amount of sweetened condensed milk than originally called for.
Ingredients for the green Thai tea concentrate:
1/2 cup (55 g) green Thai tea mix (you must use this brand)
1/2 cup (100 g) sugar
3 cups (710 ml) hot water at 160-180F/71-82C NOT BOILING!
2 cups (500 g) ice
Directions for the green Thai tea concentrate:
Combine green Thai tea mix, sugar, and hot water in a large bowl and steep for 8 minutes.
Add ice into a pitcher (where you plan on storing the concentrate).
Strain the tea through a fine mesh strainer into the iced pitcher and store in the refrigerator until ready to use. You can also use immediately because the ice has brought it to room temperature!
To assemble one drink:
Drizzle Ā½ oz (15 g) or 1 tablespoon sweetened condensed milk into a tall glass.
Fill with 1 cup (250 g) ice.
Pour 1 cup (240 ml) green Thai tea concentrate over the ice,.
Add 2 oz (60 g) high quality whole milk.
Stir (while admiring the pretty colors), and enjoy.
XOXO,
Soph
